First, a little about me… I grew up thinking that smaller was always better so I started restricting my calories and only doing cardio. It worked, I lost weight and I had a BMI of 17.0 (underweight); however, I still wasn’t satisfied. I read somewhere that eating 1200 calories was the magic number to lose weight and that was what I did without taking into account my active lifestyle, my height and my fast metabolism. I was tired ALL the time, still didn’t like the way I looked and couldn’t sustain eating such a small amount of calories. It didn’t take long before I gained back all the weight I had lost plus an additional 15 lbs. I had developed a bad relationship with food and would restrict my calories during the day only to binge eat at night and feel horrible both physically and mentally the next day. I knew nothing about health and fitness at this point, but I was determined to lose the weight I had gained and be a healthier individual. I wanted a positive view of my body and knew something had to change.
I read a lot about health, nutrition and working out to gain more insight into what I previously knew very little about and over the years have changed my diet, training and mindset to a much healthier version of myself. I still wanted to learn more so last year I got certified as a personal trainer through NASM. I weigh more than I did when I first started to “diet” and lose weight and I am the happiest I’ve ever been. I’ve learned that the number on the scale only means as much as you let it and that being stronger, healthier and happier will always be better than weighing 10 lbs less. I want to help others gain confidence in themselves and their bodies and live a healthier lifestyle. I truly believe that what you put into your body makes such a difference on your mental health and I want to help others be the best version of themselves.
