With so many new fitness and health products coming out daily, it’s hard to keep up with what you should and shouldn’t buy. I wanted to share some of my favorite fitness products that I keep coming back to and hopefully help you make a decision on what you should buy.
Protein powder – a staple in my pantry. You don’t need it to be healthy and you can get enough protein in without it but I love adding it to meals for added protein. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I LOVE my smoothie bowls in the morning. I also add 1 to 1 1/2 scoops of protein and it makes my smoothie taste SOO good! The brands of protein powder that I buy are Unico Nutrition and PEScience. Unico Nutrition is a smaller company so they’re a little more expensive but I love what the company stands for and their branding. Every flavor I’ve tried is delicious and my go-tos are molten chocolate and cookies and cream. PEScience is a larger company so they tend to have cheaper prices which is always nice on my wallet. My favorite flavors are chocolate, vanilla and peanut butter cookie. If you’re looking to save a little $$ on Unico Nutrition, you can also use my code “LAURA” for 15% off first time buyers 🙂
BCAAs – I didn’t start drinking these until a few months ago and really enjoy them. Again, they aren’t necessary to see progress but they are a great low calorie way to help protein synthesis in your body and make your water taste delicious! The only brand I’ve tried is Unico Nutrition and love the Blue Frost flavor. I tried Grape but it was a little too grape flavored for me. I ended up liking it more as the time went on but I don’t think I’d buy it again. If you like grape flavored things, you’ll love this flavor but I’m not a huge fan of grape flavored items.
Protein Bars – Okay…I’m going to preface this by saying I have a slight problem with my protein bar addiction. I love trying new brands and flavors and tend to stock up way too much on these. I guess there are worse problems though right?! That being said, I’ve tried a lot of protein bars and always go back to my favorites:
Square Bars – I’ve listed this one first because they’re probably my favorite (I say probably because I love too many of them and can’t really decide). These bars are high in protein, dairy-free, soy-free and gluten-free. I really only care about the protein content and that they’re DELICIOUS but the other qualities are definitely great bonuses for me buying them. They have multiple flavors and I love everyone of them. I usually rotate which flavors I buy because I honestly can’t decide which I like the best. The only flavor I haven’t tried is Mint Chocolate because I don’t like anything Mint Chocolate so I know I wouldn’t like this flavor as much as the others. These bars are relatively expensive but they are always having sales that make them 20-30% off which is when I buy them. 🙂
Zone Perfect – These bars are lower in protein but I buy them at Costco and they are the cheapest protein bar I’ve found that tastes amazing. Definitely a staple in my pantry and I tend not to have a problem getting enough protein in my diet so the amount of protein isn’t a deal-breaker for me. They also only have 3g of fiber which I like because I find that most protein bars have too much fiber and they upset my stomach.
Oh Yeah! One – Again, one of my favorite bars; however, they are lower on the list because I don’t buy them very often. They are more expensive than the other bars I mentioned so this is definitely a splurge item. The birthday cake and blueberry cobbler are my favorite flavors.
Unicorn Crunch Bars – These bars are fairly new to Unico Nutrition and I’ve tried both flavors. I don’t really like cinnamon rolls so my go-to flavor is the vanilla frosted chocolate brownie . These bars are seriously delicious and the macros are also great. They have 20g of protein, 19g of carbs and 8g of fat while only having 3g of fiber and 5g of sugar. Like the Oh Yeah! One bars, they are more expensive than the other bars so I don’t have them as frequently but they are a great treat snack to have on hand! You can use my discount code “LAURA” to save you $$$ on them if you want to try them 🙂
Yup Brands – If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that this bar has been my favorite for awhile now. They seem to be a smaller company so I like supporting them and they have some delicious flavors. They recently came out with a few new flavors and reformulated some of their bars and they’re even more delicious! I tend to eat these less than I used to though because of the high fiber content. I noticed my stomach didn’t digest bars with high fiber very well so I’ve been trying to limit them. They have around 14-20 grams of fiber depending on the flavor which is A LOT considering women only need 20-25 grams per day. I have no trouble getting my fiber in through other sources but if you do have trouble eating enough fiber, maybe these bars will help.
Chocolate – I’ve always had a sweet tooth and chocolate helps me satisfy my sweet tooth and not go crazy. I love dark chocolate so I buy Ghirardelli’s dark chocolate squares. The ones pictured above are 86% cacao. If you don’t like your chocolate that dark, they also have 72% and 60%. I like the 86% because it only has 5g of sugar per serving.
Coffee – Alright, I know this isn’t necessarily a fitness product; however, it does help me stay on track with my fitness goals because it gives me a natural caffeine kick and helps wake me up in the morning. I don’t drink it every day, but I tend to treat myself to it once or twice a week. I typically get a cappuccino or regular coffee. Some coffee drinks can be high in calories so make sure you’re taking that into account if you love coffee like me. Every once in awhile is fine but if you’re drinking a large Frappuccino every day, those calories and fat can add up quickly if you’re trying to lose weight and/or tone up.
Last but not least, GUM! – As you can see in the picture, I buy gum from Costco since it’s cheaper and you can never have too much. Someone’s always asking for a piece so this makes sure I have some for everyone 😉 Gum is a great way to freshen your breath and helps me not bored eat.
